The name Not So Mexican Canary came to be mainly because of my grandma on my moms side. She is from the Canary Islands and growing up I always heard stories about her visits to the islands. I was born in Texas, grew up in Mexico, and now currently back in Texas! The "Not So Mexican" part is because no one seems to think I grew up in Mexico or that I actually speak Spanish until they hear me speaking it.
Well, as I mentioned I grew up in Mexico. When I turned 16 my family and I moved to Texas where I finished my last 2 years of high school and continued on to college. I started off college with intentions of completing a biology degree but that was soon switched to a architectural degree. I finished college with a B.S in Architecture, the night of my graduation dinner I was introduced to the man I now call my husband, thinking I would never really see him again, only to be reintroduced to each other a few days later by his younger sister at a work Christmas party. Long story short, I was looking for a creative outlet after deciding it would be best for me to be a SAHM, we have a 4 year old son, but for his 2nd birthday party (cowboy theme) I was determined to make the decorations myself. I had the tools and supplies at hand and tried my luck at creating a horse stables sign and DIYing some stick horses for the kids to take home. After making a few more signs for the party I was hooked on the sign making and haven't really stopped since! Although the shop is mostly made up of wood signs we also now have canvas banners and hand painted journals.
It might not be a fun fact but it's a silly one.. I have this obsession.. err love for dachshunds, when I see one out and about I'll pretty much come and talk to you and love on your dog. I had 2 a few years back and fell in love right away, they even made it into my logo!
